Your Hotel Makes or Breaks the Trip: Here’s how I choose because it is that serious

One of the most important parts of planning any trip is choosing the right hotel. While many people focus primarily on flights, activities, and restaurants, I believe where you stay can have a huge impact on your overall travel experience. Your hotel is more than just a place to sleep—it's your home base in an unfamiliar destination. It's where you start your mornings, recharge after long days of exploring, and return to when you need a moment to relax and reset.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that hotels don't really matter because you're only there to sleep. I couldn't disagree more. After spending an entire day navigating a new city, walking miles, dealing with transportation, and taking in new experiences, having a comfortable and welcoming place to return to makes all the difference. A good hotel can elevate a trip, while a poor one can add unnecessary stress and frustration.

When choosing accommodations for myself or my clients, I start by identifying what matters most for that particular trip. Every traveler is different. Some prioritize location above all else, while others may value amenities, luxury, walkability, or budget. Once I understand those priorities, I narrow down properties that fit both the desired experience and price point. From there, I cross-reference the location with neighborhood research and safety information to ensure the hotel is situated in an area that feels comfortable, convenient, and aligned with the goals of the trip.

Personally, cleanliness is one of my top priorities when selecting a hotel. Clean bathrooms, fresh linens, organized rooms, and well-maintained spaces can instantly make me feel comfortable in a new destination. No matter how beautiful a city may be, having a clean and peaceful place to return to at the end of the day helps me fully enjoy the experience. Taking the time to carefully select the right hotel not only provides peace of mind but also creates a stronger foundation for an enjoyable and memorable vacation.
